Wow... that was the first time I've been able to see the guys live. I moved here to Japan a few years ago from Canada and had no idea then I'd see them here for the first time.

The highlights of the show include:
- some technical difficulties for Nick's set-up that led to an arguement with the technician and his guitar getting unplugged somehow during Bittersweet Symphony. I couldn't see what happened until after the fact.
- Richard calling on some heckler in the audience and then smashing his acoustic guitar on the stage
- Si threw the broken guitar a meter away from where I was in the crowd. I managed to get a small piece of it.
- Sit & Wonder was amazing. I can't wait for the new album.
- Life's an Ocean. My favorite song.
- At the end Richard walked off, kicking a stool on his way, evidently not impressed with Nick's guitar problems.
- Nick said arigato and sayanora a few times, bowed to the audience, and apologised for something or to someone, not sure what he said though.

Overall it was an amazing show. The best I've been to. The set list:

This Is Music
Sonnet
Space & Time
Sit & Wonder
Life's an Ocean
Lucky Man
The Drugs Don't Work
The Rolling People
Bittersweet Symphony

I can't wait to see them on a proper tour as opposed to a festival situation.

Nice review. Thanks for sharing. So that explains the broken guitar I've been hearing about. Sound issues and hecklers will definitely do the trick. Was Si singing along to the songs? And any idea how many people were at the festival?

Here are some vids:

YES, dream come true. No more TDDW. Richard confirmed it on this vid: 'let's scrap that one, fuck that tune... fuck doing that, I'm never fucking playing that again, let's do Lucky Man...'' Thought my prayers had been answered but then they started playing it again. Undecided

This guy don't know how to film...his focus is all over the place. Missed the part when Nick smashed his guitar. I wonder if that's $1000 bucks down the drain every time. He's busted his guitar a bunch of times over the past year. I would think he buys the real shit, not the generic brands. But at the rate he's going through them, who knows?

There are some strange rumors flyin' around this gig. Don't believe any of it, but to be honest; those clips don't look too good  Undecided

I just watched the video of the osaka gig and that is definetly real. I totally missed nick chucking his guitar like that. Too many arms in my way. But Richard storming off and Nick making like he was going to knock down the mic stand I do remember.  I also remember Si and Pete keeping it going like that.
Also, Si was singing along to TDDW and he was staring at one person in the audience the whole time too. It's funny that someone caught that. Were you there?
I don't know about any rumours. I only said what I saw and I guess I missed a few things as that video shows.

@already there: if it wasn't for your corresponding impressions I wouldn't have noticed it, but this gig has made a couple of headlines.

on which they refer to this (hardly reliable) source...

The official site tries to downplay the situation.

Could turn out to be nothing, but not something a fan wants to read about when the new album is about to drop...

No more DDW? Let's hope so!
Why do people bother posting such shitty videos? "Look at me, I'm an incompetent videographer who's gotten over 2000 youtube hits in 3 days!"  Tongue  That one made me woozy!

I didn't like the autor's choice of adjectives in that second link van. Can't say I fully understand the whole situation, nor do I need to. Bad gigs happen, just like bad days. I enjoyed the show because The Verve on a bad day is still better than a shit band at their shining best.

@alreadythere: Yeah, I agree. A lot of bad journo's, sad commenters and just plain haters out there, that's for sure. Never mind them.

Nice to hear you really enjoyed yourself out there. I saw them a couple a months ago at Pinkpop and they ruled. Things is, they take risks. They're perfectionists. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But that's OK, 'cause it's still all about the music, you know.
